Book now for May, 2011 in Olcott New York!

We will be available again this year in Olcott, New York for salmon trips. We are not going to be offering packages with lodging included this year, but there are lots of places nearby where you can get a room overnight. I can hook you up with all of the info.

We will be offering weekend trips on April 29th - May1st; May 6th - 8th; May 13th - 15th; and throughout the week from May 20th - 30th, so there are plenty of openings available. If you've never fished for king salmon, this is a great trip! Mature kings average 16-20lbs in the spring and can really put up a fight.

Generally, the weather in May is very pleasant but it can get hot on shore, cold on the water, and rain is always possible. Last year we had some really cold weather that none of us were prepared for. This year I am bringing my insulated coveralls, just in case. The water is only 50 degrees so the breeze on the water can be quite chilly.

We will be departing the dock at 6:00am each morning and returning at 2:00pm. We are also going to be offering  evening trips as well. So, if you wish, you can arrive in Olcott ready to fish (license already purchased) and climb onto the boat at 3:00pm and we will fish for 4 hours. We return to the dock at 7:00, eat dinner, put our feet up, and hit the rack so we are fresh and ready for the morning’s fishing.

These are nice packages. You are traveling several hours to get there, why not make the most of it?

Olcott, 2011 prices (based on 4 anglers)

Full day of fishing (8 hours) $520.00

Half day (evening) $400.00

Directions to Olcott From I-90

From Interstate 90:

Follow 90 to Buffalo past first set of toll booths.

Get off on (watch this it is tricky) 290 west.

Take 290 west to 990 north.

Take 990 north until it ends and you will be on route 263 (Millersport highway). You will see exits off of the 290 and 990 for 263 or Millersport Highway, but do not take them (unless of course you want to drive 30 miles through Buffalo traffic). Stay on 990 until it comes to an end.

Turn left (north) on 263.

Take that to route 78 (Transit Road) turn left (north).

You will stay on route 78 until it comes to an end right in Olcott on route 18. You will then turn left, go over the bridge, make your first right, and then another right, and you will be in the harbor.

While on Transit road between 263 and Olcott is the town of Lockport. You will have to pay attention to the signs to stay on transit road (78) but it isn’t too difficult. While going through Lockport, there are several shopping centers, restaurants, a Subway, etc. You will need to stop here for supplies. Once you travel north of Lockport, there is virtually nothing in the way of grocery stores, places to get beer, gas stations, etc. There are no early diners for breakfast, no place to get coffee or a doughnut, when I say nothing, I mean it! Damn strange to have a town that makes most of it’s income from fishing tourism that doesn’t have these amenities to cater to fishermen but I swear it is true. You will want to get your New York fishing license upon arrival in Olcott, or at a Walmart along the way. The Walmart might be a better bet.

All charters:

We offer full day and evening trips. We have two boats. This means we can accommodate up to 4 charter trips per day!

We fish the Ohio waters of Lake Erie and since 2008, the New York waters of Lake Ontario. In Ohio, we meet our clients at the public dock in Conneaut. Olcott New York is our port of call for Lake Ontario salmon and steelhead action.

Directions to Conneaut Public Dock from Interstate 90:

Take exit 241 (route 7) north to route 20. Turn right onto 20 (east), go to next light (Broad Street) and turn left (north). Take Broad Street north until it heads downhill into the harbor. At the bottom of the hill, turn left into the public dock area.Look for the Shell gas dock. Something Catchy Two is moored 50 yards east of the fuel dock.

Generally, Something Catchy leaves the dock at 6:00am. On full day (8 hour) trips we return to the dock about 2:00pm. On 6 hour trips we arrive at the dock about 12:00pm. Additional time on the water can be negotiated during the trip. Clients can also dictate departing time (which also changes arrival time). You are the customer. Something Catchy will schedule the trip to cater to your needs. We understand that often, significant travel time is required, so we are flexible on the schedule. Just contact us to make other arrangements. We will also schedule evening charters upon request. Evenings begin at 3:00 and end at 8:00pm. If we get in earlier, we can leave earlier and extend the trip a little.

Elite Packages:

You may have seen the "Elite" package price listed on the rates section. We now have guest accomodations for up to 12 anglers on our premises. The Liar's Den, as we've dubbed it, is brand new and is sure to impress your crew with it's cozy appointments. The elite package includes one overnight stay for your crew. We set out a continental breakfast for you.You may choose to stay the evening prior to your trip, or following it, or do both for an additional $100. You won't match our hospitality anywhere!

Walleye/Steelhead Charters:

We can accomodate up to 6 people on walleye/steelhead trips. Trip price is for up to 4 people. In early June, we will be fishing within a mile of shore. As the water warms, we will have to travel farther off shore, up to about 12 miles. We will slow troll a vast array of lures, spoons and lure/live bait combinations. At times  we may employ up to 12 rods at once! Multiple hookups are common. Running over a school of actively feeding fish creates chaos for the mate, and lots of excitement for you! We  call our trips "walleye/steelhead" charters because we don't specifically target steelhead. Steelhead don't school up like walleyes so they are hard to concentrate on but they are in the same area as the walleyes. They feed on the same thing as the 'eyes and create a nice bonus to the trip if we hook into a few.

Evening Trips now available:

Since there are only so many  days in the season, and our clients still want more, we are pleased to offer additional opportunities.  Evening walleye trips begin at 3 pm and return to the dock at 8 pm. Evening perch trips begin at noon and return by 6 pm. In the event we make it in early, we may even be able to start before the set times. Look at the calender for posted evening trips available. Give us a call to discuss your options.

Perch Charters:

Each boat can take up to 6 people perch fishing. Prices is the same for 1-6 people. Generally we will be fishing in 48-70 feet of water (perch schools move around). We find these depths from 2-7 miles off shore. The boat will be anchored, allowing anglers to fish from anywhere around the boat. We use live bait rigs with two size #4 hooks and minnows for bait. When the action is hot catching two at a time is the norm! Perch are fantastic eating! A limit of 30 perch per angler yields an average of 4-5lbs of tasty fillets per angler. There are numerous fish cleaning services available on shore.

Lake Ontario Salmon and Steelhead Charters:

Since 2008, we have been fishing out of Newfane Marina in Olcott New York. We will be there this coming year from April29th through May 30th and have openings available (check bookings calender).  We will leave the dock by 6:00am and return no later than 2:00pm. If you want the opportunity to catch a real trophy, this is it! We target king salmon, steelhead, lake trout and brown trout. Kings often top 20 pounds in the spring and can really put on a fight. Olcott is located about 30 miles north of Buffalo.  Bring your crew and be at the dock the evening before your full day, and we'll take you out for an evening trip. Might as well fish two days right?
