Frequently asked questions:
Q: What is the difference between the regular price and the Elite package?
A: The elite package also includes overnight accomodations in the Liar's Den guest room.
Continental breakfast is provided. See the links for more info. The overnight stay can
can either be the night before the trip or the night after.
Q: Do you clean the fish?
A: We fillet fish on Lake Ontario salmon trips (clients must pay $1 per fish for using the marina
fish cleaning facilities). We do not clean fish on Lake Erie trips although clients staying
in our lodge can negotiate with the mates to have their fish cleaned.
Q: Do we need to bring any tackle?
A: Something Catchy provides all rods, reels, tackle, and bait but clients are free to bring their
favorite gear if they prefer.
Q: Do we need a fishing license?
A: Yes, each angler must possess a valid fishing license for the waters we will be fishing.
Please have your license purchased prior to boarding the boat. We suggest anglers
buying short term licenses wait until the morning of the trip to purchase their license
to avoid buying a license on a day when we may not be able to fish due to weather.
Q: How many fish are we allowed?
A: In Ohio, each angler is allowed 6 walleyes, 30 perch, and 3 steelhead. In New York, anglers
are allowed 3 fish, no more than two of which can be trout.
Q: Does the boat have a bathroom?
A: Yes, Something Catchy is equipped with an enclosed marine head.
Q: Do you cancel when it rains?
A: No, we will fish in the rain provided there are no thunderstorms forecasted or in the vicinity.
Bring your rain gear.
Q: How rough of water will you fish in?
A: That depends on the clients. We will not suggest cancellation unless waves exceed 4 feet. We
have had clients willing to fish in 3-5 foot waves and have done very well. Waves exceeding 5
feet are uncomfortable to fish in and could pose safety hazards.
Q: What if someone gets sick?
A: We suggest using motion sickness medication to anyone unsure if they are prone to
sea sickness. There are several over-the-counter varieties including Dramamine, Bonine,
or their generic equivalents, or ask your doctor about prescription strength remedies. These
should be taken up to two hours prior to getting on the boat (follow instructions). If at any time
a client becomes sick, the entire charter must agree to return to the dock as this terminates the
trip. The Captain may, at his discretion, take the remaining clients back out fishing (additional
charges may apply). Hint: Avoid Mac Donald’s (and greasy foods) for breakfast. Make sure to tell your Captain at the first sign of motion sickness. He may be able to give you something to help.
Q: What if we have never fished before?
A: Something Catchy provides free instruction. Have no fear! You will be a seasoned veteran
in no time.
Q: Can we drink beer on the boat?
A: Yes, but please no glass containers or hard liquor.
Q: Should we bring coolers on the boat?
A: You will not need a cooler for fish until we get back. Please bring your food and beverages in
no more than one 40 quart cooler.
Q: How much does the mate get tipped usually?
A: Your Mate's performance should dictate what you think he/she deserves. Fishing is hard work and the day isn't over until long after you depart. Common practice is 15-20% of the charter fee. Remember, on those days when the fish just aren't cooperating, your mate is working even harder than on the days when the fish are coming to the net fast and furiously.
